Cache Valley Homeschooler Campout
Wed. August 27 – Fri. August 29, 2008
.
.
Where?
Hyrum City Canyon Campground and Lodge. This is eight miles east of the mouth of Blacksmith Fork Canyon on the south side of Hwy 101. For those of you who were here, this is where we had the Fall Festival. It is a lovely location by the river.
How do I register?
You must fill out the Registration Form and return it with your payment to Aaric Mason before August 1, 2008. There are 14 campsites available at the Hyrum City Canyon Campground. There are bathrooms and water at this campground. In addition, we have reserved additional campsites at Left Hand Fork (where the Mountain Man Rendezvous is held each year). It is about a mile away and there are no facilities, so register early to get in the first campground.
Cost?
Base fee: $25 per family, or $15 per family if not staying the night
Dutch Oven Dinner Fee: $6/adult and $3/children (8 and under)
T-Shirts: $5/each ($10 for “female fitted” t-shirts)
How is this structured?
We are having organized activities on both Wednesday and Thursday. There are 3 class sessions, 2 hours each. Children will be divided into groups by age. Each group will have (hopefully) two teen helpers that will go with the groups to activities and help to supervise. If there aren't enough kids for an age group, we'll combine groups. And if there are too many, we'll split.
The activities will be led by adults. We would like each parent to sign up to teach or assist with a class. This can be almost anything: hikes, crafts, games, sports, art, science, maps & compasses, outdoor cooking, water rockets, Cache County folklore, music, Cub Scout belt loops—whatever is your particular talent or interest. Please share with us. We want there to be a variety of activities for all ages and interests.
Children will be divided into the following age groups:
Small Fry: Under 5 years old. These guys will go with their parents. There will be activities for them, but they need to be accompanied by a parent. If the parent is teaching a class, they can either bring their smaller children with them to the class, or arrange for someone else to watch their Small Fry.
Wildcats: Ages 5-6
Grizzly Bears: Ages 7-8

Silver Wolves: Ages 9-10
Golden Eagles: Ages 11-12
Teen Helpers: Ages 13 and up.
Parents: You choose where to put your kids. If your child is just barely 7 and you think that they will do better with the 5 and 6-year-olds, put them there. If they are a very mature 4 year old and you want them with the 5 and 6-year-olds, go for it. We homeschool so that we can have the freedom to decide these kinds of things. I’m not going to be strict. Do what is best for your family, but also be aware of the needs of others.

Families provide their own breakfasts and lunches. We are eating our dinners together. Wednesday’s dinner is “Bring-Your-Own-Meat” and pot-luck salads. We are providing chips, drinks, and s’mores. Thursday’s dinner is Dutch Oven. The $6/adult and $3/children price is to pay for this meal. You need to bring your own plates, cups and utensils, as they are not provided.
We are having a Campfire each night. We would like families to contribute to the program. Please let us know if you would like to share a skit, a story, a talent, a song—whatever your family would like to do.
